The Qualification
What is the Solicitors Qualifying Examination?
The SQE is the centralised assessment introduced by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in 2021, replacing the LPC as the primary route to qualifying as a Solicitor in England and Wales. It is now the standard for anyone — in the UK or internationally — who wants to practise as a solicitor.
The SQE is split into two stages: SQE1 tests functioning legal knowledge across two papers (FLK1 and FLK2), while SQE2 assesses practical legal skills. Lincoln Law’s programme focuses entirely on SQE1 — because many students with existing legal practice qualify for SQE2 exemptions, making SQE1 the decisive step toward full qualification.
For Pakistani lawyers, the SQE is transformative: no nationality restriction, no requirement for a UK law degree, and a direct path to UK, UAE, and global legal markets without relocating or starting your education over.
Lincoln Law covers all 13 SQE1 subject areas across FLK1 and FLK2 — taught by practising lawyers, delivered on weekends, completed in six months.
Why the SQE Changes Everything
- Qualify as a Solicitor in England and Wales — globally the most recognised legal title
- No nationality restriction — open to any graduate worldwide
- Replaces the LPC — the new gold standard route to solicitor qualification
- Opens UK law firms, Dubai DIFC, and MNC in-house roles
- Prior legal experience may earn SQE2 exemption
- Sit assessments at Pearson VUE centres — no UK travel required
- Dramatically increases earning potential and global career mobility
SQE2
Exemption
Many Pakistani lawyers may not need to sit SQE2
The SRA recognises that lawyers with substantial prior legal practice experience may be exempt from SQE2 assessments — meaning SQE1 is all they need to sit. Lincoln Law assesses your SQE2 exemption position at your admissions interview.
— Who It’s For
Built for lawyers who want to go further.
Unlike the BTT, the SQE is open to any graduate — not just lawyers. It is the most flexible and globally mobile UK legal qualification available today.
In-House Counsel
Advance beyond your current role. An SQE qualification signals to boards and MNCs that you operate at international standard — opening senior advisory and leadership positions.
LPO Employees
Working in legal process outsourcing but want to qualify properly? SQE converts your existing legal work experience into a globally recognised Solicitor qualification.
Global Aspirants
Targeting UK law firms, Dubai’s DIFC, or remote legal roles internationally? SQE is the most direct route from Pakistan to those markets.
Fresh Graduates
(any discipline)
You don’t need a law degree. Any bachelor’s graduate can pursue Solicitor qualification — making SQE the most accessible UK legal credential available.
Private Practitioners
Expand into cross-border commercial work. The Solicitor title opens corporate client relationships and international transaction advisory that local credentials cannot.
Mid-Career Lawyers
Experienced but stuck? SQE gives established Pakistani lawyers an international credential without relocating or studying full-time. Weekend delivery keeps your career running.
SQE1 in full —FLK1 and FLK2.
Every module is taught by practising lawyers with direct Bar experience. You’re not just learning theory — you’re building the skills that define a barrister in practice.

CAMPUS / MAIN ENTRANCE AREA
— Entry Requirements
Are you eligible?
The SQE is the most accessible UK legal qualification available — open to any graduate, not just lawyers. If you have a degree, you are almost certainly eligible to begin.
Open to all graduates — law or otherwise
Unlike the BTT, the SQE has no requirement for a law degree or Bar licence. Any bachelor’s degree from a recognised university qualifies you to sit SQE1 — making it the widest entry point into UK legal practice.
Any Bachelor's Degree
A degree in any subject from a recognised university. Law graduates are well-positioned but non-law graduates regularly succeed on the SQE route with structured preparation.
Qualifying Work Experience (for full qualification)
To qualify as a Solicitor, two years of QWE in legal services is required alongside the SQE assessments. Many Pakistani lawyers already have this — and it may exempt them from SQE2 entirely.
Unsure about eligibility or your SQE2 exemption position? Speak to us before applying. Our admissions team gives honest assessments — we will not enrol students who are not on the right path.
Admissions Interview
A short conversation to confirm eligibility, assess your SQE2 exemption position, and choose the right study mode. Not a test — a conversation.

SQE2 Exemption
Assessed at interview
This is our inaugural SQE cohort. Places are limited and admission is by interview. SQE2 exemption eligibility assessed for every applicant.
SQE — answered.
Specific questions about eligibility, exemptions, or the process — our team responds within 24 hours.
What is the SQE and why has it replaced the LPC?
The SQE was introduced by the SRA in 2021 as a centralised, standardised route to qualifying as a Solicitor in England and Wales. It replaces the LPC because it is more accessible internationally, removes the requirement for a specific law degree, and creates a consistent standard across all candidates. It is now the primary solicitor qualification route globally.
Why does Lincoln Law focus on SQE1 only?
Many Pakistani lawyers with existing practice experience qualify for SQE2 exemptions — meaning they do not need to sit SQE2 to proceed toward full qualification. Lincoln Law focuses on SQE1 (FLK1 and FLK2) because structured teaching delivers the greatest value there. We assess each student’s SQE2 position individually at interview.
Do I need a law degree to take the SQE?
What is Qualifying Work Experience and do I already have it?
QWE is two years of work experience in legal services — required alongside the SQE assessments to qualify as a Solicitor. Many practising Pakistani lawyers already satisfy this requirement through their existing careers. At your admissions interview, Lincoln Law will assess your QWE position and how it factors into your SQE2 exemption eligibility.
Do I need to travel to the UK to sit the SQE?
No. SQE1 assessments are administered by Pearson VUE at authorised test centres globally. Pakistani students can sit FLK1 and FLK2 without travelling to the UK. Lincoln Law will guide you through the assessment booking process in full.
What is the SQE1 exam format?
SQE1 consists of two written papers — FLK1 and FLK2 — each containing 180 multiple choice questions, sat on separate days. Lincoln Law’s programme includes extensive MCQ practice, full mock papers, and timed assessment conditions so students are fully prepared for the format, not just the content.
Can I study online if I'm not based in Karachi?
When does the first cohort begin and how do I secure a place?
The inaugural SQE cohort begins June 2026. Places are limited and admission is by interview only. Submit your enquiry via our application form or WhatsApp — our admissions team will schedule your interview and guide you through enrolment personally.
