The Qualification

What is the Bar Transfer Test?

The Bar Transfer Test (BTT) is a professional qualification that enables foreign-qualified lawyers — including those trained in Pakistan — to become barristers in England and Wales, without completing the full UK academic route from scratch.

It is regulated by the Bar of England and Wales and assessed across eight core modules that focus on advocacy, litigation, and professional practice. For Pakistani lawyers, it is the most direct and prestigious route to earning the Barrister-at-Law title.

Unlike the traditional UK path which requires years of undergraduate study, the BTT recognises your existing legal qualification and builds on it — translating your Pakistani legal education into a globally recognised UK credential.

Lincoln Law prepares students for all eight BTT modules through structured teaching, advocacy practice, and mentorship from practising Supreme Court advocates — delivered around your professional schedule.

Why the BTT Matters

— Who It’s For

Built for lawyers who refuse to be limited.

The BTT is designed for practising lawyers and law graduates in Pakistan who want international recognition without putting their careers on hold.

Court Lawyers

5+ years in practice but facing a ceiling on fees, clients, and recognition. The Barrister-at-Law title resets how the market perceives you — immediately.

Fresh Law Graduates

LLB in hand but unclear on what comes next. The BTT gives you direction, a prestigious credential, and a career trajectory that sets you apart from day one.

Private Practitioners

Struggling to attract corporate clients or command premium fees? The Barrister-at-Law title makes you the obvious choice for serious legal work.

— How It's Structured

Six months, three phases.

The BTT programme is structured in three progressive phases — building foundational knowledge, then applied skills, then assessment readiness. Weekend delivery means your career doesn’t stop while you study.

Are you eligible?

The BTT is designed for foreign-qualified lawyers. If you hold a Pakistani law degree and are licensed to practise, you are likely eligible. Our admissions team will confirm your specific situation at interview.

LLB Degree or Equivalent

A recognised law degree from a Pakistani university or equivalent foreign jurisdiction. The BTT is specifically designed to build on your existing legal education.

Bar Licence (Pakistan)

A valid licence to practise law issued by the Pakistan Bar Council or a Provincial Bar Council. This confirms you are a qualified foreign lawyer — the core BTT requirement.

Not sure if you qualify? Contact us before applying. Our team reviews eligibility personally and will advise you honestly — we won't enrol students who aren't eligible.

— COMMON QUESTIONS

BTT — answered.

Specific questions about eligibility, process, or anything else — our team responds within 24 hours.

The BTT is a professional qualification regulated by the Bar of England and Wales. It enables foreign-qualified lawyers — including those trained in Pakistan — to become barristers without completing the full UK undergraduate route. It covers eight core modules and is the direct path to the Barrister-at-Law title.

Preparation is done entirely at Lincoln Law in Pakistan. However, the BTT assessments themselves and the formal call to the Bar are administered in the UK through your Inn of Court. Lincoln Law will guide you through this process in full.

Eligibility for the BTT typically requires both an LLB and a Bar licence (enrolment with a Bar Council in Pakistan). If you have your LLB but not yet your Bar licence, speak to us — we can advise on your options and timeline.

A UK LLB typically takes three years of full-time undergraduate study in the UK. The BTT recognises your existing Pakistani legal qualification and provides a direct route to the Bar — in six months, without relocating. It is specifically designed for foreign-qualified lawyers, not for students starting from scratch.

Yes. Lincoln Law offers a fully online mode for students outside Karachi. All lectures are recorded, live sessions are held on weekends, and you’ll have full access to faculty and course materials remotely. Some students combine online study with occasional campus visits for advocacy practice.

The interview is a conversation — not a test. We’ll discuss your legal background, your reasons for pursuing the BTT, and the study mode that best fits your schedule. It’s also your opportunity to ask us anything. Most interviews take 20–30 minutes, in person or online.

As our inaugural cohort, places are intentionally limited. We are keeping the first intake small to ensure every student receives the direct faculty access and mentorship that defines the Lincoln Law experience. We strongly recommend early enquiry.

Lincoln Law students have direct access to their faculty — both founders are practising Supreme Court advocates who remain involved throughout the programme. Beyond academic support, we provide guidance on the Inn of Court application process, UK Bar requirements, and career direction after qualification.
